Learn a new dua every day

Think of it, you can learn ten new duas by the time Ramadan ends. While it is true that Allah (SWT) knows every teeny tiny wish that might be hidden in the deepest corners of our hearts, expressing it out loud and praying for things to materialize in your favor is extremely important. Duas which Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us is the best way to seek and request Allah’s (SWT)’s beneficence. With worldly affairs seeping all of our energy in the normal days, there isn’t just enough time to learn new duas. Ramadan in general and the last ten days of the holy month are the perfect time to learn new duas.

Clear up your dues!

By dues, we mean zakat and zakat al fitr. While it is true that Muslims can pay zakat during any time of the year, most of them calculate and pay zakat during the holy month of Ramadan. So for those Muslims who have not paid their zakat yet, the last ten days of Ramadan are a great time to fulfil this financial obligation. Also, it is best to pay zakat al fitr well ahead of Eid ul Fitr so that the underprivileged members of society can celebrate Eid in its truest spirit. Again, it is best if you pay zakat al fitr in the first few days of the last decade of Ramadan as well.

Importance of Laylatul Qadr in Islam

Itikaf

Muslims all over the world sit in Itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. This is a period of isolation & seclusion, which is not obligatory but has immense spiritual benefits and manifestations. When a Muslim decides to sit in Itikaf, he or she cuts off ties from worldly affairs completely. During this period, the focus is solely on reconnecting with Allah (SWT) and re-establishing the link that might have broken down due to indulgence in worldly affairs. Think of this period as an opportunity to pray without any worldly distractions, you will be able to divert all your attention towards achieving one goal i.e. Allah (SWT)’s mercy!

Seek the night of blessings!

Also known as Laylatul Qadr (the night of decree), this is one of the most revered occasions, not only in Ramadan but in the entire Islamic calendar. The significance of this night is evident from the following Quranic verse:

“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Qur’an, 97:3)

Muslims who repent on this holy night, and pray for forgiveness are promised forgiveness for their previous sins. It is worth mentioning here that the exact day or date of the night of blessings is not revealed. According to one of the hadith in Bukhari & Muslims, Muslims are encouraged to seek it in the odd days of the last ten days of Ramadan. Hence, reciting the Holy Quran and praying Nawafil at night during this period are some of the key activities that every Muslim must busy themselves in.

Take a vow!

Ramadan is an opportunity for every Muslim to become a better version of themselves. Unfortunately, the moment Ramadan is over, we tend to forget all the good habits we adopt during this month of blessings. It is imperative to take a vow that we will not revert to the old sinful versions of ourselves after Ramadan if we are serious about reforming and transforming ourselves into better Muslims. Otherwise, the point of all these efforts which we put in during the holy month is lost.
