Challenges:
District Lakki Marwat is a rich locality in terms of topography and climate. It is a land that has a desert, rivers, streams, orchards, mines, and mills. When it comes to health care facilities, the district has four hospitals and around 45 small health care centers or dispensaries. Despite a rich topography and the above-mentioned health facilities, it is to be noted that approximately 88 percent of the population dwells in the rural setting, is impoverished, and therefore has a low literacy ratio. In these circumstances, basic health is more of a luxury than a fundamental human right. Moreover, due to the saturation of patients at public hospitals resulting from the provision of limited health care facilities, most diseases go unnoticed and therefore remain untreated. It is common knowledge that poor living standards result in adverse effects on the general health and wellbeing of the residents, causing short-term illnesses such as eye, nose, and throat infections, Hepatitis, Diabetes, and Hypertension. Over time, the mentioned illnesses have the potential of becoming acute. Presently, COVID-19 has added another dimension to the pre-existing challenges. The public health sector remains burdened to its maximum capacity, making access to basic health care a great difficulty.
