Heritage

In the province of west Punjab, the delta of Rivers Ravi and Chenab has been gifted by nature with special alluvial clayey soil which irrigated by perennial waters of these rivers nurtured by monsoons, gives birth to the finest Basmati Rice. With its aroma, elongation and fluffiness upon cooking, it is in this delta that Basmati Rice is grown for centuries, which is not only the folklore of Punjab but also is the heritage of Pakistan.

All Basmati varieties being grown here have long slender grains, pleasant aroma, linear elongation of twice of its grain size and soft dry fluffy texture upon cooking. In Pakistan Basmati Rice varieties are classified into the following two main categories

All Basmati varieties being grown in Pakistan have long slender grains, pleasant aroma, linear elongation of twice of its grain size and soft dry fluffy texture upon cooking. In Pakistan Basmati Rice varieties are classified into the following two main categories:-

Extra Long Grain Basmati Varieties

These are the commercially top of the line Basmati varieties, having an average grain length of 7.15 mm – 7.20 mm. Super Basmati Rice is known to be the ‘King-of-Rice’ and is popularly associated with this part of the world. It has all the Basmati characteristics and good cooking is achieved even with fresh crop. It has become very popular in the European Union as well as in the Middle East without any doubt. It is the leading Basmati variety of Pakistan today.

In recent years, a new variety called Kainat-1121 was introduced to the farmers. This is the off-shoot of Basmati variety having an average grain length of 8.30 mm – 8.35 mm. This variety is fast becoming popular in the Middle East and beyond due to its unique length, linear elongation and overall outstanding cooking results.

Long Grain Basmati Varieties

These are the commercially second best varieties after Extra Long Grain Varieties and have an average grain length from 6.60 mm – 6.80 mm. Plant

Reem Rice Mills (Private) Limited first established a 10 MT/Hour most modern and highly sophisticated milling plant in 1994 and later on added a 5 MT/Hour reprocessing plant. The machinery for both the plants was supplied by Buhler GbmH of W. Germany. The Project is spread over 35 acres of land with Millhouse, Godowns, Office Blocks and Water Turbines.

Milling

On arrival at the mill gate, samples are drawn from each and every bag by trained samplers. After going through a preliminary check of quality by their highly experienced paddy selectors, the selected samples are sent to their Quality Assurance Laboratory for detailed testing and analysis.

Husking

Before sending the paddy for milling it is once again cleaned in the mill house to ensure total elimination of any leftover impurities. To avoid breakage and damage to the delicate basmati grains, Rubber Roll Hullers are employed in stages to separate brown rice from husk. The leftover paddy grains in the brown rice are separated by table separators and brown rice is further screened by special width graders to remove unhealthy shriveled and green grains. Brown rice is then subjected to the polishing operation.

Polishing

Reem Rice employs three different sets of the most sophisticated polishing machines in stages to attain any degree of polishing and silkiness as desired by their valued customers.

Grading

The polished rice are passed through Sifters and series of Length Graders to separate small, medium and large broken rice from the head rice which are collected in separate bins through Auto Scales indicating the weight of each by-product being produced.

Sorting

Finally the double polished, silky head rice is then led into three color sorting machines to remove all damaged, yellow and discolored grains. The export quality sorted rice is first collected in totally enclosed rice bins and is packed into bags through an automatic Gross Weigher for dispatches.

Monitoring

Reem Rice plant has a fully Computerized Monitoring System (PLC) and latest MYAF Yield System, which indicates minute-to-minute information about degree of polishing and yields of head rice, brokens, by-products, bran, husk and impurities on monitor screens enabling their engineers to have absolute control over the quality of rice being produced.
