Alisha Batool's Story
Alisha Batool, aged 1.5, a resident of Sargodha was suffering from tiredness and breathlessness since birth. Upon medical evaluation she was diagnosed to have been suffering from Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) since birth. Every baby is born with a ductus arteriosus, which is the connection between two major vessels coming out of heart. This opening usually narrows and closes within the first few days of life. Sometimes, the ductus fails to close after birth and this condition is termed as Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). PDA often leads to various cardiac complications and health issues. Alisha Batool’s cardiologist has now advised her to undergo Device Occlusion of PDA that is a procedure during which the cardiologist inserts a catheter into a blood vessel in the groin, from where it travels to the site of PDA. Here a closure device is threaded through the catheter and placed into the PDA followed by removal of the catheter. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints Alisha Batool’s family can not afford this surgical procedure. As Alisha Batool awaits Device Occlusion of PDA, her mother narrates their ordeal in the following words:
“Since birth, he has been ill. We have been circling back and forth to various hospitals. Finally we met a good cardiologist who diagnosed her illness and also recommended a surgery. But now, unfortunately a new challenge is at hand. Due to financial constraints we are unable to bear the expenses of the surgical procedure. My husband is a labourer by profession and he earns PKR.12000 per month. He is providing for a family of five members including his mother, me and our children. In these circumstances facilitating our child’s treatment seems out of the question.”
Luckily, now that Alisha Batool and her family have been connected with Transparent Hands, you can make this procedure possible. Transparent Hands will collaborate with The Pakistan Children Heart foundation to cover the medical expenses. But it doesn’t mean we will not be needing you. Now, as Alisha Batool awaits Device Occlusion of PDA, generously, donate to assist her in cherishing the gift of life.
