Mumtaz Mai is a loving wife and mother who has been diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis of the femoral neck. This debilitating condition has given her a lot of pain and made it hard for her to move. She can’t even do the simplest tasks because of it. She is desperate for a chance to live a normal life again and to be able to take care of her family. She has one child and she is very much concerned about providing a good future. It is only possible with her good health to take care of her child’s needs. Mumtaz Mai, a 46-year-old resident of Jhang, has been suffering from severe pain and swelling in her left hip for two years. Upon consultation, the doctor gave her an anti-inflammatory medicine. However, the pain and swelling in her hip increased with time. Her husband took her to the specialist. The doctor examined her, ran some tests, and diagnosed her with Avascular Necrosis of the left femoral neck. It is a condition in which blood supply is lost to the bone. This can cause the bone to weaken and collapse, leading to pain and difficulty moving the affected joint. The doctor advised her to have total hip replacement surgery on the left side. During this surgery, the damaged ball-and-socket joint is taken out and replaced with a metal ball on a stem. This ball is fixed into the thigh bone, and a plastic socket is put into the pelvis bone. The surgery will help Mumtaz walk without pain.

She lives with her handicapped husband and one child. Her husband is the family’s sole breadwinner and earns only PKR 18,000 per month. He is having trouble making ends meet and can’t pay for Mumtaz’s total hip replacement surgery, which she needs badly. She said with teary eyes:
