Liaqat Ali's Story

“I never expected that life will bring me to this critical position where I will have to struggle between taking care of my home and saving my father. I’m losing my father with each passing second and there is nothing I can do to save him. I have no savings and now even my relatives are not in a position to help us. I am scared that if I fail to arrange money for my father’s heart surgery, I’ll lose him forever.” – Liaqat’s son

Liaqat used to be so healthy and he was managing his household well by working as a labourer. He was earning a handsome amount which was enough to bear the expenses of his wife and 4 children. But now, his heart disease doesn’t even let him walk for a few minutes. He needs support to even perform his day to day activities.

Around 16 years ago, Liaqat was diagnosed with Ischemic Heart Disease (triple vessel disease – blocked arteries which lead to poor blood and oxygen flow, which causes heart damage and even heart failure). He took treatment from a local hospital in his area for few years but his condition deteriorated in 2016 when doctor advised him to undergo angiography. Liaqat didn’t have any money for this particular procedure. He knocked many doors for help but nobody stepped forward to support this poor man. His son started working in a bank and took care of this family’s expenses. But he doesn’t earn enough to bear the cost of his father’s treatment. Liaqat had his angiography done with the help of a few people and now doctor has advised him to undergo open heart surgery (CABG) as soon as possible.

They have visited almost all the local hospitals for free treatment. One of them gave him surgery date of more than two years. Liaqat has somehow struggled to live with his disease all these years but now, he is not even able to breath or walk properly. Each passing minute is crucial for his health. Without surgical treatment, his family might lose him forever.
