Obaid Ullah's Story
Obaidullah, 6 years old, had always been an active and playful child. But, his parents noticed that he seemed to struggle while breathing. Physical exertion made the matters worse. Out of sheer worry, his parents took him to the local hospital to find out what was wrong with him. On thorough medical check-up, it was found out that Obaidullah was suffering from a congenital heart defect called pulmonary stenosis. In this condition, there is obstruction in blood flow from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery. It is caused by narrowing or “stenosis” of the pulmonary valve. The doctors advised a procedure called pulmonary valvotomy (open heart surgery). In this procedure, an incision is made in the pulmonary valve so that the opening to the pulmonary artery is enlarged. Consequently, the blood flows easily into it.
This is an expensive procedure and Obaidullah’s father cannot afford to pay for it from his pocket. He works as a daily wager and earns only PKR 15,000 per month. All the monthly expenditures and school fees are already hard to manage in this scarce amount. Therefore, they visited the local hospital multiple times in hopes of getting an appointment for his surgery but were not facilitated.
“I have not been able to sleep since my son has been diagnosed with this congenital defect. I spend the days working and the nights worrying about how I will pay for his procedure. I wish I could afford the best possible treatment for my little angel.”– says Obaidullah’s father with tears in his eyes
A physician told their family about Transparent Hands and they visited our office immediately. We have taken up his case and have promised to help them in their time of difficulty. However, we need your help too in this regard. Your donations will make a world of difference in Obaidullah’s life. So, please make a generous donation for this little angel’s pulmonary valvotomy.
