Muhammad Tariq's Story

Muhammad Tariq, a 52-year-old man from Lahore, is experiencing blurry and dim vision due to a cataract in his right eye. A cataract is a condition that causes the natural lens of the eye to become cloudy. Tariq’s life has been badly affected, as he can’t perform his daily chores. Simple tasks such as climbing the stairs and crossing the street have become difficult. Tariq consulted with an ophthalmologist about his deteriorating eye condition. The doctor diagnosed and recommended Phaco + IOL surgery to restore his vision.

Tariq faces extreme difficulty while recognizing his loved ones’ faces and his social life has been significantly affected. The cataract has stolen the simple pleasures from him. Tariq longs to see clearly but his financial constraints prevent him from undergoing the surgery. He lives in a modest 5-marla brick house along with his six family members. Tariq and his sons are daily wagers and only make PKR 45,000 per month. With this income, they are hardly able to manage their daily expenses and cover the cost of utility bills amounting to PKR 14,000.

Tariq said in despair:

“The thought of completely losing my vision frightens me a lot as I want to provide for my family. The cost of the eye surgery is beyond my financial means. I am looking for support from donors. Kindly help me regain my sight.”

Tariq misses the time when he could navigate his surroundings without any struggle. Without cataract surgery, his eye condition will continue to deteriorate.
