Ali Kashif is a 14 months old baby boy, who lives in a slum town of Ghotki in Sindh with his parents and one school going brother. This poor family lives in a small man-made hut as they cannot afford to buy permanent shelter. Despite being very poor, this family lives happily and enjoys spending time together. Ali is the most loved kid of the family who loves playing with his elder brother. 

Ali’s family was extremely happy when he was born. His cute giggles lightened up their lives but it didn’t last for long. Ali got sick when he was only seven months old. He suffered from fever and shortness of breathing. He also used to turn blue due to excessive crying. His parents took him to a nearby hospital where they were told to visit specialist. Ali’s parents managed to take him to another doctor who examined Ali and did some tests after which he told that, Ali was a patient of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).

Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a rare condition caused by combination of four heart defects that are present in infants by birth. These defects affect the flow of blood through the heart. TOF happens when a baby’s heart does not form correctly inside the mother’s womb.

Doctor has recommended Ali’s parents to be prepared for his cardiac surgery as this is the only way for his survival. The surgery cost is too expensive and out of the reach of Ali’s father. He is a tenant farmer and hardly earns around 300 rupees a day. In such a low income, he cannot even afford to pay for the hospital visits, let alone the surgical treatment. Ali’s father doesn’t even have money to buy new clothes for himself and his family.

This desperate family waited for a miracle for almost seven months until one day, they were fortunate to find Transparent Hands. They brought Ali here and got him registered for his major cardiac surgery.
