Improve Bibi Maryam’s Quality of Life with Tonsillectomy

Maryam Bibi's Story
Bibi Maryam, a 10-year-old girl from Karachi, has been suffering from occasional throat pain and swelling for the past three years. Her condition makes it difficult for her to eat, speak, and swallow comfortably. She also experiences repeated episodes of sore throat that leave her weak and restless. Concerned about her worsening health, her parents recently took her to a local hospital for a detailed consultation. After a comprehensive examination, the doctor diagnosed Maryam with Chronic Tonsillitis, a condition characterized by persistent inflammation of the pharyngeal tonsils and the back of the throat. To relieve her pain and prevent further complications, the doctor advised a Tonsillectomy.
Maryam is a student, and the illness severely affects her ability to focus on her studies and attend school regularly. If she does not receive timely surgical treatment, her condition may lead to serious complications such as peritonsillar abscess, excessive tonsillar enlargement, and the spread of infection to nearby organs.
Maryam lives with her parents and two siblings in a modest rented house in Karachi. Her father, who works hard as a daily wage laborer, earns around PKR 20,000 per month. With this meager income, he struggles to cover the house rent of PKR 10,000, utility bills of PKR 1,000, school expenses, and daily household needs. They face immense financial hardships and cannot afford the cost of Maryam’s essential surgery. Despite their hardships, they dream of seeing Maryam healthy, playful, and able to pursue her education without any barriers.
Maryam’s parents shared their plea as follows:
“Our daughter struggles to eat, speak, and study because of her constant throat pain. As parents, it breaks our hearts that we can’t afford her surgery. Support Maryam’s much-needed surgery.”
Maryam deserves to live a healthy life like other children of her age.
