Momina Needs Cochlear Implant Surgery to Hear
Momina Abdul Aziz's Story
Momina Abdul Aziz, a 3-year-old girl from Lahore, has been unable to hear her loved ones’ voices since birth. At her age, when most children start to explore the world and learn to communicate, Momina is confined in her small silent world. Upon noticing her unresponsiveness to sounds, her parents took her to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing some lab tests, the doctor diagnosed her with congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL). To enable her to hear and speak, the doctor advised cochlear implant surgery. However, her family is unable to pay for her surgery.
Momina’s parents are deeply concerned about her condition. Whenever she is with other children, she remains silent and does not engage with them. The sooner she receives the cochlear implant surgery, the better her chances of speech and language development which are important at her age. If she doesn’t undergo the surgery on time, she might not be able to develop the ability to hear and speak.
Momina lives in a modest house with her four family members. Her father, the sole provider for the family, works as a tailor and makes just PKR 35,000 per month. This monthly income is significantly insufficient to cover utility bills of PKR 7000 as well as educational expenses of PKR 8000 per month. They are surviving in poverty and can’t pay for Momina’s expensive surgery. During this challenging time, Momina’s parents reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for help.
Momina’s parents said in despair:
“Every day without hearing is a challenge for our child. The cochlear implant surgery can change her life, but it is too expensive for us. We are asking for your help. Please give our child the chance to hear and communicate.”
Hearing opens doors to effective communication and more opportunities. For Momina, this cochlear implant surgery can be a lifeline. We request you to be a source of hope during her time of need. Only you can provide her with the opportunity to explore the world of sounds.
Join hands with us to change Momina’s life.
