Tahira Batool's Story

Tahira Batool, a 48-year-old resident of Lahore, has been experiencing cloudy vision and short-sightedness, which make it difficult for her to navigate her surroundings. She went to a doctor to get her eyes checked and was diagnosed with a cataract in her right eye. Tahira has been known for her nurturing presence in her house, but she is struggling to take care of her family. Her diminished vision has stolen the pleasures of life from her. The condition is also affecting her ability to continue her work as a housemaid. The cataract has reduced her clarity of vision and she struggles to see the world. Her doctor has advised her to undergo Phaco + IOL surgery.

Tahira remains overwhelmed with sadness as she can’t afford the much-needed surgery. She works as a housemaid and earns just PKR 15,000 monthly. She lives in a small rented house with three family members. The rent of the house amounts to PKR 7000 and the cost of utility bills is PKR 3000. Tahira’s husband and brother-in-law are daily wage laborers. The whole family’s monthly income (PKR 45000) is still insufficient to meet their living expenses. Tahira experiences extreme hardships due to her visual impairment. She feels isolated and avoids gatherings because she struggles to recognize her relatives and friends.

Due to the financial constraints, Tahira’s family can’t pay for the cataract surgery. In their search for help, her family found Transparent Hands and registered her case.

Tahira said with grief:

“I don’t find pleasure in any activity I do. I bump into things while walking around the home. I don’t want to be a burden on my family and wish to spend my remaining life with independence. I hope that my vision will be restored with the support of generous donors. Please help me.”

Transparent Hands is devoted to its mission to help needy patients like Tahira. It has become bothersome for Tahira to carry out routine tasks. Her world has become so small and dark, and she has lost the connection with her surroundings. She needs your support to undergo the essential surgery.

Together, we can bring back light in her life and empower her to live her life without these challenges.
