Shafa Usman’s Life-Saving Heart Surgery was Successful

Shafa Usman's Story

Shafa Usman, a 6-year-old girl from Lahore, had faced serious health challenges since birth. She suffered from persistent shortness of breath, fatigue, and poor weight gain. Her parents lived each day in fear, watching their little girl struggle. Determined to find a solution, Shafa’s parents took her to a local hospital, where doctors ran several diagnostic tests. After a thorough evaluation, Shafa was diagnosed with a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Pulmonary Atresia (PA). While she had previously undergone a BTS surgery, her condition still required a Rastelli procedure. However, the cost of this complex surgery was far beyond what her family could afford.

Shafa lived in a modest home with her parents and two elder siblings. Her father was unemployed, and her mother struggled to provide for the household on a minimal income. They barely managed to cover utility bills and food expenses. Due to their financial constraints, affording to pay for Shafa’s surgery was impossible for them. During this moment of despair, Shafa’s family reached out to Transparent Hands. Understanding the nature of her condition, we registered her case.

On February 26, 2025, Shafa was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Shafa received pre-operative care, and her surgery was scheduled for March 1, 2025. Her procedure was expertly performed by Dr. Asim. The operation was a success. After receiving post-operative care and monitoring, Shafa was discharged in stable condition on March 7, 2025.

Shafa’s mother expressed her heartfelt gratitude as follows:
