Mehwish Bibi's Story
Mehwish Bibi, a 34-year-old woman from Lahore, had never known what it felt like to breathe freely. Since birth, she suffered from shortness of breath and chest discomfort, which caused immense challenges. Simple tasks such as performing her household chores and climbing stairs made her breathless and tired. Concerned about her condition, she decided to consult a doctor at a local hospital. After performing a comprehensive examination, the doctor diagnosed Mehwish with a Secundum Atrial Septal Defect. To ensure her recovery from heart illness, the doctor advised ASD closure surgery, but her family was unable to pay for her surgery.
Mehwish’s husband is the sole breadwinner of the family. He makes just PKR 50,000 per month. They live in a rented home along with four children. With their monthly income, it was challenging for them to manage their utility bills, children’s school fees, as well as grocery expenses. Due to their financial constraints, arranging money for Mehwish’s surgery was significantly challenging for them. During this difficult time, they have turned to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. Recognizing the gravity of her situation, we promptly registered her case.
On April 25, 2025, Mehwish was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. Her surgery was scheduled for April 26, 2025. The ASD closure surgery was remarkably performed by Dr. Faiz Rasool. Mehwish received careful monitoring in the ICU and was discharged in stable condition on April 28, 2025.
Mehwish Bibi described her happiness as follows:
“I had given up hope, but this surgery changed everything. I can move without feeling tired and breathless. The happiness I feel is overwhelming, and it’s all because of your generosity. You’ve given me a life I never thought possible.”
Mehwish is now recovering and has resumed her routine tasks. Her quality of life has improved significantly. For this change, she and her family are incredibly grateful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation.
You made a meaningful difference in Mehwish’s life.
