You Unlocked the World of Sounds for Shah Jahan

Shah Jahan's Story

Shah Jahan, a 4-year-old boy from Jafarabad, Balochistan, had lived in a world of silence since birth. While other children of his age laughed, spoke, and responded to the sounds around them, Shah Jahan remained disconnected. Concerned for their little boy, his parents took him to a doctor. After conducting several medical tests, the doctor diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor advised a cochlear implant surgery—a life-changing procedure that could finally give Shah Jahan the gift of hearing and the ability to speak. However, the high cost of the surgery was far beyond his family’s means.

Shah Jahan’s family lived in a tent, facing the harsh realities of poverty every day. His father, disabled and unable to work, could not provide for them. His mother worked hard as a seamstress, but her monthly income of just PKR 20,000 barely covered their basic needs. With six children to care for and limited resources, saving for Shah Jahan’s surgery seemed like an impossible dream. The family’s struggle to survive left them hopeless, fearing that their son might never experience the joy of sounds. However, a neighbor told them about Transparent Hands, which brought hope to them. They immediately contacted us. Touched by Shah Jahan’s story, Transparent Hands registered his case.

With the incredible support of generous donors, Shah Jahan was admitted to the National Hospital, Lahore, on April 15, 2025. Dr. Naveed Aslam successfully performed the cochlear implant surgery and inserted the internal component. After careful postoperative monitoring, Shah Jahan was discharged in stable condition on April 16, 2025.

Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant will be installed. Moreover, Shah Jahan will start receiving speech therapy sessions. Shah Jahan’s parents were overwhelmed with gratitude and said:
“You have given our son the gift of sounds. We had lost hope, but your support changed our lives forever. Thank you for giving Shah Jahan a future filled with possibilities.”
