Challenge

By population, Sargodha is the 12^th largest city of Pakistan. Since, it is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, its healthcare system is struggling to keep up with the needs of the inhabitants. The public hospitals provide affordable healthcare services to the masses, but are usually overburdened and under-staffed. There is also a shortage of beds in most hospitals. The private medical facilities are well-equipped and provide quality services to the patients. However, majority of the population belonging to the lower and middle class cannot afford to go there. There is also an ever-growing problem of unqualified practitioners (quacks) taking advantage of poverty stricken population and putting people’s lives in jeopardy. Furthermore, as the COVID-19 pandemic is progressing, there is additional load on the hospitals.

Our Solution

Transparent Hands team will setup a free medical camp in Sargodha to provide its residents with free medical consultation from qualified physicians. The patients will also be provided with free medicines. Any cases that would require further consultation or surgical intervention will be registered by our team and will be contacted later for follow up. Patients will also be screened, free of cost, for Hepatitis B and C.

How Medical Camp in Sargodha by Transparent Hands was conducted?

Transparent Hands team organized a free medical camp on November 21, 2020, at Chak 58/NB, Sargodha to facilitate the underprivileged population residing in that area that cannot afford basic healthcare facilities. Our medical team consisted of fourteen experts including one supervisor, three doctors (two male and one female), two pharmacists, one staff nurse, one lab technologist, two patient registrars, one photographer, and three crew workers. The medical team was successful in the provision of expert medical consultation and medication, free of cost, to 344 patients. The tests that were conducted in the camp included Hepatitis B and C screening tests, blood sugar, and blood pressure. The majority of the cases constituted patients who were suffering from allergies. They were prescribed appropriate medicines by the doctors. In this medical camp, twelve patients were identified who needed surgical intervention and four patients needed various medical procedures for their respective conditions. Four patients also tested positive for Hepatitis. These cases were registered by our team, so that they could be contacted at a later stage for further follow-up consultation by the experts and required treatment procedures.
