Challenges
Neelum Valley is situated in the Azad Kashmir region of Pakistan, close to the Line of Control with India. Neelum Valley is a beautiful mountainous area with many health problems because of its location and lack of infrastructure. Lack of access to healthcare facilities is a serious issue because residents find it challenging to travel to hospitals and clinics due to their remote location and challenging terrain, particularly in harsh weather.
The region also experiences a shortage of medical professionals, such as doctors and nurses, which has an additional negative impact on the standard and accessibility of healthcare services. Some of the most common health problems and diseases include respiratory illnesses, seasonal allergies, waterborne diseases, malnutrition, leprosy, iodine deficiency, and anemia. Addressing these health challenges in Neelum Valley requires focused efforts to improve healthcare accessibility.
Our Solution
To address the health issues, Transparent Hands intends to host a free medical camp and a session on preventive healthcare. The underserved population of Neelum Valley will greatly benefit from the immediate healthcare services that our camp will provide. Our camp’s main goal is to offer medical assistance, diagnosis, and treatment to people who do not have access to standard healthcare facilities. Our camp will also offer a range of services, including general medical check-ups, diagnostic tests, immunizations, and the distribution of essential medicines. The importance of living a healthy lifestyle will also be emphasized by one of our doctors at the medical camp.
Our medical camp will overcome the obstacles of distance and accessibility by bringing healthcare services directly to the community. Patients who need surgeries or other types of medical care will be registered with Transparent Hands and directed to one of the panel hospitals. You have the chance to have a positive impact on the lives of many deserving patients who live in this area by giving to this worthy cause.
Transparent Hands recently arranged a free medical camp in Azad Kashmir with a preventive healthcare session on October 22, 2023, at Jander Sari in Gurez Valley. Recognizing the dire lack of healthcare facilities and access to essential medicines, this medical camp aimed to bridge the healthcare gap and provide quality medical services to impoverished patients residing in this remote mountainous village.
Free Consultations, Medicines, and Diagnostic Tests
A total of 315 deserving patients had the opportunity to consult with expert doctors at no charge. The camp also provided free medicines, diabetes tests, uric acid tests, hepatitis B and C screenings, and cholesterol and blood pressure checkups. Additionally, 270 diagnostic tests were conducted to help diagnose and evaluate the patient's medical conditions.
Diseases and Treatments
Most of the patients who sought consultation were suffering from fever, cough, flu, sore throat, chest infection, earache, toothache, weak eyesight, eye infection, skin allergies, seasonal allergies, scabies, high Bp, diabetes, diarrhea, gastric pain, kidney pain, knee pain, vitamin D deficiency, anemia, UTI, and body weakness. No surgical case was registered.
Preventive Healthcare Session
One of our expert doctors conducted a preventive healthcare session dedicated to educating the attendees on the prevention and management of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).
