Challenges 

Palosa Sar, located in the district of Karak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, faces various basic healthcare challenges. These include limited access to medical facilities, a scarcity of qualified healthcare professionals, inadequate infrastructure, and financial constraints hindering individuals from seeking necessary medical care. Some common diseases found in Karak, KPK, include respiratory infections and gastrointestinal infections. This free medical camp will have a profound impact on deserving patients. It will provide them with access to essential healthcare services that they might otherwise be unable to afford.

To make quality healthcare accessible to impoverished patients, Transparent Hands organized a free medical camp and preventive healthcare session on August 29, 2023, in Palosa Sar, Karak, KPK. The primary objective of this free medical camp was to address the healthcare needs of underprivileged individuals who face significant barriers to accessing adequate medical assistance.

Free Consultations, Medicines, and Diagnostic Tests

During the medical camp, 684 deserving patients received free consultations with expert doctors. The camp provided free medicines, diabetes tests, uric acid tests, hepatitis B and C screenings, ultrasound for female patients, and cholesterol/blood pressure check-ups. All these services were offered to the patients without any charges. Additionally, the camp conducted 139 diagnostic tests, ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage.

Diseases and Treatments

Most of the patients who sought consultation were suffering from fever, flu, cough, chest infection, ear/eye infection, migraine, kidney pain, cardiac pain, backache, toothache, abdominal pain, chest pain, vomiting, and urine infection. There was no surgical case registered during the camp. 

Preventive Healthcare Session

At the free medical camp, one of our expert doctors conducted a preventive healthcare session specifically targeting the prevention and management of malaria. The session aimed to educate the attendees on effective strategies and measures to prevent the spread of malaria and effectively manage the disease.

Impact

The free medical camp held in Karak had a lasting impact on 684 deserving patients and their families. It provided vital medical care to those in desperate need, ensuring that disadvantaged individuals had access to necessary healthcare services, such as free consultations and treatments. The camp also conducted a session on malaria prevention, equipping participants with effective strategies to protect themselves from this harmful disease.

By taking a comprehensive approach that combined treatment and prevention, the camp significantly improved healthcare outcomes within the community, empowering individuals to prioritize their well-being. The unwavering support from donors who shared our vision of delivering high-quality healthcare to underprivileged communities in remote areas played a pivotal role in achieving this success.

Medical Camp Team

The Karak medical camp team consisted of 15 members, including one supervisor, four doctors (two males and two females), one lab technician, two pharmacists, two patient registrars /crew members, three volunteers, one staff nurse, and one photographer.
