Challenge:

The Cholistan Desert, also locally known as Rohi, is a large desert in the southern part of Punjab, Pakistan that forms part of the Greater Thar Desert, which extends to Sindh province. Climate-wise, Cholistan is one of the harshest regions in Pakistan. As the monsoon approaches in the capital of Lahore, the residents are found enjoying the rainy weather in bazaars but  Cholistan and nearby areas still suffer from the harsh realities of the climate.

With a rise in heat waves, residents of Cholistan are at a greater risk of many health issues including heatstroke, sore eyes, diarrhea, vomiting, and skin diseases. Those living in rural areas have no other choice but to bear the scorching heat due to lack of basic necessities. They don’t even have clean drinking water to keep themselves hydrated. Due to the severity of the weather, in some cases, heatstroke has resulted in many other complications including seizures or kidney failure.  Presently, the public health sector remains burdened to its maximum capacity due to increasing cases of COVID-19. The pre-existing challenges are making access to basic health care a great difficulty for the residents. Therefore, urgent help is needed in Cholistan.

Our Solution:

Transparent Hands aspires to reach out to the underprivileged residents of Cholistan, who do not have access to basic healthcare and disease awareness. This medical camp is a small yet necessary step in making Pakistan a safe and healthy country.
