Challenge:
Bahawalpur is a city located in the south of Punjab Province. The area known as Bahawalpur State was home to various ancient societies. The Bahawalpur region contains ruins from the Indus Valley Civilisation, as well as ancient Buddhist sites such as the nearby Patan minara. With summer in its full swing, residents of Bahawalpur are at a greater risk of heat strokes, skin allergies, and blood pressure problems.
Despite it being an ancient historical city, unfortunately, Bahawalpur is not equipped to deal with a myriad of health problems that the residents face. Despite being home to several hospitals, the underprivileged are still unable to attain quality healthcare. Presently, the public health sector remains burdened to its maximum capacity due to increasing cases of COVID-19. The pre-existing challenges are making access to basic health care a great difficulty for the residents.
Our Solution:
Transparent Hands aims to bridge this gap between the underprivileged and quality healthcare. There is a need to reach out to those who do not have access to better healthcare. Through this medical camp, Transparent Hands aims to cater to the healthcare needs of hundreds of people and their families in Bahawalpur and also create awareness among them regarding the most prevalent health issues.

Transparent Hands recently arranged another free medical camp with the vision to bring quality medical care to deserving patients. The medical camp was held At 33 BC, Sardar Wali, Daak Khana Dera Bakha, Tehsil Bahawalpur, Punjab, on March 12, 2022.
Free consultations, medicines, and diagnostic tests
A total of 364 patients belonging to underprivileged communities received free consultations. Besides free medicines, blood sugar tests, blood pressure tests, and hepatitis B and C screenings were also provided free of charge. Given the fact that malnutrition is prevalent in the area, the medical team distributed nutritional supplements among the attendees. The free medical camp was organized and managed by Transparent Hands.
Medical camp team
The medical camp team consisted of 16 members, including a supervisor, four doctors (two males and two females), a female nurse, two pharmacists, a lab technician, a patient registrar, a photographer, and five crew workers.
Awareness session on nutrition
To tackle malnutrition in the area, an awareness session on nutrition was held for all the mothers and children at the medical camp. Besides this, nutritional supplements and food samples were also distributed among attendees. All COVID SOPs such as wearing face masks, hand sanitization, and social distancing were followed at the medical camp. In addition, the patients received face masks and hand sanitizers free of charge.
Diseases and treatments
Most of the patients who sought consultation were suffering from allergies, cough, fever, diabetes, pains, hypertension, gastric problems, and flu. Free medicines were given to a large number of deserving patients. Only three patients were advised to undergo surgery. Four patients also tested positive for hepatitis C.
Impact
The free medical camp made a lasting difference in the lives of more than 360 patients and their families. In 2022, Transparent Hands aims to arrange 100 free medical camps across Pakistan. Thousands of donors are supporting Transparent Hands’ mission to bring quality health care to even more underprivileged and remote areas of Pakistan.
