Transparent Hands is setting up a free medical camp to facilitate needy people in Dera Ghazi Khan. Dera Ghazi Khan, a populous city, faces significant challenges when it comes to providing quality healthcare to the residents. In this remote region, due to a lack of healthcare facilities and financial constraints, access to healthcare is limited. Through this medical camp, we aim to improve the health outcomes of needy individuals and ensure that they receive the medical attention they deserve.

Challenges

In Dera Ghazi Khan, many residents struggle to afford even basic medical consultations. Many are unable to receive timely care, leading to worsening conditions. Moreover, there are a limited number of hospitals and clinics in Dera Ghazi Khan. Therefore, many patients are awaiting necessary treatments.

Common communicable diseases in Dera Ghazi Khan include tuberculosis and hepatitis, which are major health concerns in the region. Furthermore, gastroenteritis is also among the common health issues in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Solution

To address the health issues faced by the underprivileged communities of Dera Ghazi Khan, we plan to organize a free medical camp. This camp will cater to the diverse health needs of the community. We will bring in a team of dedicated doctors, nurses, lab technologists, and volunteers to provide consultations, diagnostic tests, and medicines free of charge. They will provide the following free healthcare services at the camp.

· Gynecology Check-Ups
· Ultrasound Scans
· Blood Pressure Check-Ups
· Hepatitis B & C Screenings
· Uric Acid Tests
· Cholesterol Tests
· BSR (Blood Sugar) Tests
· Preventive Healthcare Session
· Deserving Surgical/Medical procedure cases will be registered

Preventive Healthcare Session

Along with medical treatments, a preventive healthcare session will be conducted to raise awareness about one of the common health issues faced by the people of Dera Ghazi Khan. Informative facts will be shared to help the community better understand the steps they can take to protect their health and that of their families.

Transparent Hands, with the collaboration of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), Intuit and Pakistan Lions Youth Council (PLYC), organized a free medical camp and preventive healthcare session at BHU Yaroo Khosa, Dera Ghazi Khan. The main objective of this camp held on October 11, 2024, was to provide essential medical support to the underserved communities of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Free Consultations, Medicines, and Diagnostic Tests:

A total of 364  deserving patients received free consultations from our expert doctors. Along with consultations, the patients were provided with free medicines and underwent various diagnostic tests including:

  •         Diabetes tests
  •         Uric acid tests
  •         Hepatitis B and C screenings
  •         Cholesterol checkups
  •         Blood pressure checkups
  •         Ultrasound scans

Most Common Diseases 

At the free medical camp in Dera Ghazi Khan, patients received consultations for a variety of diseases, including but not limited to:

  •         Abdominal pain, diarrhea, and acidity
  •         Fever, cough, flu, and chest congestion
  •         Seasonal allergies and scabies
  •         Asthma, backache, and joint pain
  •         Migraine and kidney problems
  •         Diabetes and high blood pressure

Preventive Healthcare Session

In addition to the medical services, one of our expert doctors delivered a preventive healthcare session to educate the attendees about Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs). It is an infection in the urinary system caused primarily by bacteria or viruses, leading to symptoms like pain during urination and discomfort.

Impact

This free medical camp had a considerable impact on the lives of 364 needy patients and their families. By providing free consultations, medicines, and diagnostic tests, we addressed the essential health needs of the community. A lot of patients who were waiting and couldn’t get timely interventions, received treatments and new hope to live a healthy life.

Bringing these healthcare services to the vulnerable communities of Dera Ghazi Khan reduced the burden of some common health issues and improved their health and well-being. Additionally, the residents were provided with knowledge on how to manage and prevent UTIs.
