Challenges

The Dadu district, like many other rural areas of Pakistan, faces several common health issues. Poverty, lack of access to proper nutrition, and poor sanitation lead to the spread of infectious diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. Another significant health concern in the area is inadequate maternal and child healthcare, which often results in high infant and maternal mortality rates. The causes behind this include a lack of trained medical professionals, inadequate healthcare facilities, and poor maternal health and child health education.

Additionally, the prevalence of drug addiction and smoking in the region contributes to a high incidence of respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Our Solution

Transparent Hands has the noble aim of providing free medical camp and preventive care services to the underprivileged residents of Dadu. Deserving patients will receive free medical consultation, prescribed medications, and necessary diagnostic tests from our dedicated team of doctors. Transparent Hands will keep a record of all patients who need surgical or other medical interventions and will refer them to one of the accredited hospitals on the panel.

In an incredible effort to make quality healthcare accessible to impoverished patients, Transparent Hands recently organized a free medical camp and preventive healthcare session in UC Khan Jo Goth, Village Selro, Tehsil Mehar, District Dadu, Sindh, on May 30, 2023. The medical camp was aimed at bridging the healthcare gap for those in need. The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund also participated in this medical camp and supported some of the arrangements.

Free Consultations, Medicines, and Diagnostic Tests

A total of 724 deserving patients were provided with free consultations from expert doctors during the free medical camp. In addition to the consultations, the patients received medicines and underwent various essential screenings and check-ups, including diabetes tests, screenings for hepatitis B and C, typhoid, and malaria, as well as examinations for cholesterol and blood pressure. These services were offered to patients free of charge, ensuring their access to essential healthcare services without paying anything.

Diseases and Consultation

Most of the patients who sought consultation were suffering from fever, flu, cough, skin infection, asthma, seasonal allergies, malaria, diabetes, hypertension, gastric problems, body pain, and weakness. A total of 46 lab tests were also conducted during the medical camp. Around 3% of the tested patients had hepatitis C, and 2% had hepatitis B.

Preventive Healthcare Session

During the preventive healthcare session on cleanliness and personal hygiene, attendees received valuable tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They were encouraged to prioritize regular handwashing, practice proper dental care, and keep their living spaces clean. The doctor emphasized the importance of covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing, using clean utensils for food preparation, and proper waste disposal.
