Combat Communicable Diseases in Sindh’s Vulnerable Communities
Campaign Goal: To provide life-saving hepatitis C treatments to 500 needy patients in Sanghar, Sindh, Pakistan.
Transparent Hands has been combating communicable diseases like Hepatitis C in multiple ways, including early diagnosis through lab tests, check-ups by expert doctors, and comprehensive treatments. Identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a district with a high prevalence of hepatitis B and C, Sanghar, a district in Sindh, Pakistan, needs our attention to overcome this deadly disease.
With your help, Transparent Hands can provide life-saving hepatitis C treatments to 500 deserving patients. Together, we can uplift low-income, impoverished, and vulnerable communities in Sindh where this infectious disease is prevalent.
This campaign is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3.3, which aims to combat hepatitis C by the year 2030 – a goal shared by the WHO.
High Prevalence of Hepatitis C in Pakistan
Every year, numerous individuals in Pakistan, especially those living in poverty-stricken regions, are diagnosed with hepatitis C.
In fact, Pakistan faces the world’s highest count of hepatitis C patients, with nearly 10 million cases.
Hepatitis C is usually transmitted through unscreened blood transfusions and the reuse of contaminated medical equipment. There’s also a lack of awareness about the disease and the challenge is exacerbated by limited or no access to quality healthcare. Financial hardships and a lack of healthcare infrastructure often lead to late diagnoses and advanced liver damage in many cases.
Early Detection of Hepatitis C
Recognizing the importance of early detection, Transparent Hands conducts free medical camps in regions with high prevalence of hepatitis C. Through these medical camps, we provide essential check-ups and hepatitis B and C screenings, reaching thousands of people who live in vulnerable communities. Deserving patients who have been diagnosed with hepatitis C are then registered for further treatment by the Transparent Hands medical camp team.
Transparent Hands’ Approach to Combat Hepatitis C
To address this health crisis, Transparent Hands aims to provide comprehensive hepatitis C treatments for 500 needy patients in Sanghar, Sindh, Pakistan. From free diagnostic tests that can catch the disease early to complete treatment of the disease by expert doctors at the best private hospitals, our initiative ensures that each patient receives quality healthcare.
The cost of diagnosing and treating one hepatitis C patient is approximately USD 125, amounting to a total of USD 62,500 to assist all 500 patients.
