Climate change has been triggering catastrophic events worldwide. Unfortunately, Pakistan isn’t safe from these events. This year, the country experienced incessant rains and frequent incidents of cloudbursts, resulting in flash floods and devastation on a scale not experienced since 2022. While the rains have affected the entire country, some areas are experiencing unprecedented devastation. As casualties increase and infrastructure losses mount, we must begin to support our brothers and sisters in their darkest hours. In this article, we will discuss the latest developments and explain why we must act now and make a donation to Transparent Hand’s flood relief fund.

Flood Relief for Pakistan

Latest Reports About the Floods in 2025:

According to a Reuters report, around 700 people have been killed by floods since late June 2025. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir are among the most severely affected areas.

Buner district is among the most severely affected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It received over 150 mm of rain in an hour as a result of a cloud burst, causing 200 deaths. Flash floods swept away many villages, leaving a trail of destruction behind.

The rains have also caused significant damage to the infrastructure. 1684 houses are destroyed, 451.18 km of roads are damaged, 152 bridges are destroyed, and almost 2,462 livestock have perished.

The numbers are expected to increase as more rainfall and floods are anticipated in the coming days. The next few weeks will be more challenging, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As Pakistan prepares for another round of monsoon rains, we are on the verge of a disaster, and thus we must prepare to provide relief to flood-affected areas.

Devastation Caused by the 2022 Floods

In 2022, Pakistan experienced one of the worst floods in recent history. More than 1700 lives were lost, while 8 million people were displaced. Consequently, 8.4 to 9.1 million fell below the poverty line. The floods affected approximately 33 million people and caused damage exceeding USD 30 billion.

A similar situation is brewing presently. To mitigate damages, we must act with urgency.  While rescue operations will be carried out on an official level, we must get together to support the survivors of the disaster. Contribute to Transparent Hand’s flood relief fund to help us organize flood relief camps in areas that have been affected by the recent floods.

Help Pakistani Flood Victims

Immediate Threats to the Flood-Victims:

You can prevent further losses by assisting Transparent Hands in making arrangements for the displaced flood victims.

The following are some of the immediate threats faced by the flood survivors:

Water-Borne Diseases:

Diseases such as Cholera, Typhoid, and Diarrhea tend to spread very quickly in flood-affected areas due to the presence and consumption of contaminated floodwater. A lack of proper sanitation can further exacerbate the problem.

Vector-Borne Diseases:

Once the water recedes, it leaves behind pools of stagnant water, which is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. Hence, the risk of diseases like Malaria and Dengue increases. Snake bites are also a concern under these circumstances.

Infections:

Due to overcrowding, the risk of infections increases drastically. Various respiratory, skin, and eye infections may become prevalent.

Exacerbation of Existing Illness:

People with pre-existing chronic conditions like Diabetes or Cardiac issues may not be able to find medicines, leading to further complications.
