How Will Your Flood Relief Donations Save Lives in Pakistan?

As the floods in Pakistan continue, 998 casualties have already been reported, while 1062 people were injured. Besides this, 9,058 houses, 680.08 km of roads, and 239 bridges have been damaged. Over 4,400 villages in Punjab have been affected by the floods.
During this crisis, we need to go the extra mile to assist the injured and save many lives by providing free first aid, medicines, check-ups, diagnostic tests, food, shelter, clothes, and mosquito nets.
As rescue missions are carried out, the number of flood survivors increases and new challenges emerge. In this article, we will discuss some of these challenges and explain why you should consider contributing to Pakistan flood relief donations.
Challenges Faced By Flood Victims:
As floods continue to leave a long trail of misery and destruction, many heart-wrenching stories emerge. More than two million Pakistanis had to evacuate their homes, leaving behind their belongings, seeking refuge from the relentless deluge.
Many lost their loved ones, while thousands have lost their livelihood. Your Pakistan flood relief donations can go a long way in easing these challenges. While they emotionally heal from the trauma of losing their homes, the flood victims face a host of new challenges to survive, regain their health, and rebuild their lives.
Scarcity of Food and Drinking Water:
Providing food and clean drinking water to 2 million people is a significant challenge. The scale of the challenge is not limited to a few days or weeks. It might take months for the flood victims to return to their homes. Till then, they require a consistent supply of healthy food and clean drinking water.
Healing Injuries:
Many food victims have sustained injuries of varying degrees and severity, and they need to be provided with first aid. Over 1000 people are reported injured. However, even a very minor injury can prove fatal due to prolonged exposure to contaminated water. Floodwater can carry microbial contamination, viruses, parasites, and may also contain chemical contamination. Therefore, providing medical assistance to the injured should be our top priority.
Preventing and Treating Diseases:
Certain diseases can easily break out as an aftermath of floods. Contaminated water is one of the major reasons for the spread of many diseases. While the flood victims are crammed in small spaces for safety, proper arrangements must be made to ensure sanitation and cleanliness. A lack of sanitation can lead to various diseases, including dysentery, diarrhea, cholera, malaria, and skin infections. Pregnant women, children, and old people are more vulnerable to these diseases. They currently need check-ups, medicines, diagnostic tests, and treatments and will need more in the future.
Preemptive measures, preventive healthcare sessions, and early interventions can help mitigate these diseases and save lives. That’s why we must join hands to support Pakistan flood relief initiatives.
