One’s access to good health shouldn’t depend, on whether they live on the ivory tower or in the slums. One’s access to quality medical care, shouldn’t also depend on how many bank accounts they have. Top 5 Trust Organizations Providing Free Medical Care to People in Need in Pakistan
The lack of sincerity in our governments and responsible authorities have led to an impaired healthcare system: causing unnecessary pain, suffering and uncountable deaths till now.
There is an undeniable relationship between one’s income and access to good healthcare services. Income inequality has become a great barrier both on individual and systemic levels.
If we talk about our healthcare systems ,it runs only to satisfy the needs of the rich and wealthy because they have the ability to pay for all the medical facilities, expensive medicines and equipment enabling the private hospitals to flourish in their medical business and generate huge profits.
If we talk about individual conditions, poor people have to spend a much greater proportion of their income on health care than rich people do, and compromise on other necessary expenditures like food and education of children to manage within their limited budgets.
When the government incentives are too low or almost inactive, medical trust organizations have stepped forward to expand accessible healthcare in urban and rural areas especially for the poor patients who cannot pay. These organizations are working to provide permanent relief to those who are physically vulnerable and in complete distress.
Medical trusts raise funds from the public, to support the treatment and life-saving surgeries of poor patients giving them a second chance to live. The organizations are working on multiple goals, including alleviating poverty and hunger and focusing on the implementation of their commitment to end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other communicable diseases in the upcoming years. These organizations are also aiming to establish national health coverage, and provide access to safe diagnosis and medicines for all.

Where Is the Problem?
More than 70 million people in Pakistan are living below the poverty line, due to which they are unable to undergo proper health treatment if they experience any disease. Estimated amount of surgery backlog in Pakistan is in millions every year.
- There are not many health insurance plans for underprivileged community. They have to pay out of pocket if they need any medical treatment but due to the limited or no resources, majority is unable to undergo surgical treatment.
- Beyond the cost of the surgical procedure, they might have to pay for pre and post-operative expenses which includes medical tests, medications, hospital stay and other expenses. It is almost impossible for someone who earns less than $2 a day to pay hefty amount for medical relief.
- There is lack of advanced medical facilities and medical professionals, due to which lower middle class families are unable to avail treatment facilities.
- There are a limited number of beds in hospitals but the number of patients visiting these hospitals is a lot more.
- Every second patient including a child is put on a long waiting list and during the waiting period, the patient’s health further deteriorates. In most of the cases, patients expire until their turn comes.
- There is no advanced healthcare services in slums, due to which majority of people have to rely on quacks in their areas.
- Private hospitals are out of reach for deprived community, due to the high costs of consultation fees and surgical procedure.
- Committed to Provide Free Surgeries to Those Who Cannot Afford

In the last few years, it has become impossible for the poor and low-income families to cope up with the cost of medical facilities and medicines. We do not need a major degree to understand, that the rich and wealthy population in our country is enjoying all the goodness and services of our healthcare system compared to those, who do not have the ability to pay. The healthcare budgets of the poor and low-income families get constricted ,as their children get older and the costs of running the family increase proportionally.
The condition of national healthcare has deteriorated during the last decade, and has resulted in immense dissatisfaction among the public due to mismanagement, corruption and lack of proper resources. This void in the public healthcare sector has pushed people to choose private care but commercialized hospitals and diagnostic labs have disappointed the poor families.
Healthcare is the only sector which is directly associated with the well being and health of the public. It is the only sector that can intervene between one’s life and death. But the insensitive commercial approach to health care has limited the access to medical care for the poor. We cannot ignore such inhumane treatment, given by the private hospitals because 75% Pakistanis depend on them for medical care.
We are living in an era where the pets of the rich are assured to get good food and healthcare on time, but there is no assurance that the same will happen to a human being if he is poor and does not have enough money, in their accounts to leverage the profits of the private hospitals.
Medical Trust organizations have become the only hope for these needy patients who can at least rush to them at the hours of need, and can be assured that their problems will be heard by sympathetic ears and proper steps will be taken to resolve them.
