Muhammad Abdullah's Story
Muhammad Abdullah, a 3-year-old boy from Sahiwal, had been suffering from breathlessness and chest discomfort since birth. While playing or running, his skin and lips often used to turn blue; an alarming sign that his body was not getting enough oxygen. His parents came to know about his condition when he was one year old. They took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who ran some lab tests and diagnosed Abdullah with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and recommended TOF repair surgery to correct the defects in his heart. Unfortunately, the cost of the expensive surgery was beyond Abdullah’s family’s financial capacity.
Abdullah lived in a two-room mud house with his seven family members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 25000 per month. Abdullah’s family had financial constraints and paying for the surgery was significantly challenging for them. Abdullah’s parents were heartbroken to see him suffering from this unfortunate condition. A neighbor told them about Transparent Hands. Abdullah’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked us to register his case. With the support of our donors, we arranged surgery for Abdullah at one of our panel hospitals.
On 6th June 2024, Abdullah was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. The surgery took place on 7th June 2024. Dr. Salman Shah performed the procedure. Abdullah’s open-heart surgery went well but he faced complications during the recovery process. His heart went into cardiopulmonary arrest. The medical team made all efforts to save his life but unfortunately, Abdullah passed away after this high-risk surgery on 9th June 2024.
The loss of Abdullah was overwhelming for his family and all of us involved in his care. We are grateful to you and Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for supporting them during this challenging period.
