Asia Bibi, a 23-year-old resident of Lahore, has been suffering from episodes of upper abdominal pain for two years. She went to the local clinic for an initial check-up. The doctor prescribed some painkillers to relieve her discomfort. However, she was not cured. She went to another hospital and underwent some diagnostic tests. Upon evaluation, she was diagnosed with gallstones. The condition is called cholelithiasis.

The doctor advised her to undergo a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It is a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. The removal is done through one of the small incisions made in this procedure to treat such conditions as gallstones and gallbladder inflammations.
