Bring Relief to Sakina’s Life with Thyroidectomy

Sakina Mai's Story
Sakina Mai, a 51-year-old woman from Lahore, has been battling with a growing lump on the front of her neck that has caused her increasing discomfort and symptoms like pressure. Over the past few months, the swelling has become more prominent, affecting her ability to swallow and breathe easily. Concerned about her health, she visited a doctor at a local hospital. After performing an ultrasound scan and some essential tests, the doctor diagnosed her with a multinodular goiter. It is a condition in which the thyroid gland becomes enlarged due to the presence of multiple nodules.
To relieve her symptoms and prevent further complications, the doctor has recommended a Subtotal Thyroidectomy, a surgical procedure to remove part of her thyroid gland. Sakina’s condition can be life-threatening. If left untreated, it may obstruct her airway, cause difficulty in breathing and swallowing, and may lead to cancer.
Sakina is a housewife and mother of one child. She and her family live in someone else’s home. Her husband is the sole breadwinner, working as a rickshaw driver and earning just PKR 25,000 per month. With monthly utility bills of PKR 2,000 and a heavy loan of PKR 180,000 weighing on their shoulders, they are already struggling to make ends meet. Affording the cost of this essential surgery is far beyond their reach.
Sakina said in despair:
“This lump makes it hard to even breathe at times. I can’t rest properly and worry about what will happen if I don’t get treated. My husband works hard, but we can’t afford this operation. I request you to help me during this difficult time.”
