Chaand Rauf's Story

Chaand Rauf, aged 10, is a resident of Lahore. In 2017, his Ileostomy was made for his intestinal obstruction. He was also investigated and diagnosed to have been suffering from Hirschsprung’s disease. He was operated with Duhamell pull through surgery in 2018 for this disease. Presently he has recovered and after the most recent follow up he has been advised for Ileostomy reversal by his doctors. As Chaand Rauf awaits Ileostomy Reversal, unfortunately, due to financial crisis the family can not afford this surgery for their child. His father narrates his ordeal in the following words:

“For the past five years life has tested us with all it’s might. We have circled back and forth to numerous hospitals in order to save this boy’s life. Now finally he is on the path to recovery as he has been advised Ileostomy reversal. Unfortunately we can not afford this procedure. I am a plumber by profession and I earn PKR. 20,000 per month. I am living in my mother’s house. In this meagre amount I am running a household and raising a family of four. In these circumstances I am failing to afford treatment for my son.”

Chaand Rauf's Story

Chaand Rauf, aged 10 years, had sudden onset abdominal pain. On being taken to the hospital, he was investigated and advised surgery. Since his intestine was damaged and obstructed, he underwent an ileostomy. Later, he was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease for which a Duhamel procedure was performed. Lastly, the doctors advised an ileostomy reversal surgery for him. For this purpose, Chaand was admitted to Akram Medical Complex and his surgery was performed by Dr. M. Bilal Mirza on 25.06.2021. He stayed in the hospital for five days and was discharged in a stable condition. Chaand is slowly recovering from his major surgery.
