Ahil Abbas's Story

“It hurts me to see my son like this. I wish I could take all his pain and worries away. He watches his other siblings live their life in better health, and he cannot understand why he cannot live the same healthy life. How do I explain his condition to him? He only knows pain when he is supposed to know happiness”. – Ahil Abbas’s mother.

Ahil Abbas is a three year old toddler who has been suffering from Anorectal malformation since birth. He had his first surgery for reconstruction when he was only one day old, and was supposed to receive his second surgery in the same month but that never happened. He is three years old now, and his parents have taken rounds of hospitals repeatedly. He is still on the waiting list for his PSARP surgery but his number has not come yet because he cannot afford the surgery.

Ahil has four siblings, three brothers and one sister. They all go to public schools, and the family lives in an inherited house of one bedroom in a village. Ahil is the only child who cannot afford to go to school because of his poor health condition. His father is a daily wager and earns only 18,000 PKR per month. This amount is not enough to afford his son’s treatment.

Ahil Abbas's Story

Ahil Abbas 3 years old boy was suffering from Anorectal Malformation (ARM) resulting in absent back passage - Imperforate Anus. When he was born, his emergency colostomy was done to make a temporary passage of stool. He was advised surgery to construct his back passage at the normal site. His surgery was done in Akram Medical Complex on 22-08-19 by Dr. Naveed Haider and his Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty (PSARP) was performed. He stayed for two days in hospital with good post-operative recovery and was discharged with follow-up advice.
