Almas Azeem's Story

                      “At this moment, Almas need our help to get rid of her joint pain and get back on her own feet.”

Almas Azeem is a 56 years old homemaker suffering from severe knee joint pain for the last four years. She cannot straighten her legs due to swelling and stiffness. Even the slightest movement of her knees causes crunching noises.

It is now impossible for her to carry her own weight on her knees. She cannot walk properly without support. She is taking medication since 2017 for her knee problems but nothing could cure her illness.

She is in a vulnerable state because she has already undergone a brain tumor surgery in 2004 and was on medication for subsequent year.

At present, her knee joint has worn out. Therefore, the doctors have recommended her Rt Total Knee Replacement, a reconstructive procedure which is performed to allow a smooth and pain-free movement of the joint. But Almas does not have the money to pay for her surgery which is essential for her to get permanent relief.

Her husband is a patient of backbone stiffness and cannot work anymore due to his weak health. She has a son but he is jobless. They are living in a small house on the second floor and gave the ground floor on rent for 15,000 PKR per month, to bear their household expenses.

Eventually, they came to know about Transparent Hands from internet and contacted the organization for help. Almas is now scheduled for her Rt Total Knee Replacement at Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PSRD).
