Aatif Ali Shah's Story

Aatif Ali Shah is a 20 years old student. He loves Biology and wants to become a doctor eventually. He also loves to play cricket. However, for a few years now, he has been experiencing runny nose with constant feeling of blockage. His ability to swallow was also affected. These symptoms affected his studies as well as his social life.

Initially, he ignored the symptoms. But, since they did not subside, he visited a doctor with his brother. After complete examination and testing, Aatif was diagnosed with nasal polyps. Nasal polyps are noncancerous growths that appear on the lining of sinuses or nasal passage. They are soft and painless but do retain the ability to block the nasal passage in some cases. They may also give rise to breathing problems.

The ENT specialist who examined Aatif advised a Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS). It is a common surgical procedure to treat chronic sinus infections.  The surgeon makes use of a magnifying endoscope to visualize and remove the polyps.
