Adan’s parents are extremely concerned about his future. This little boy was born with hearing loss. Adan doesn’t even know his own name. His mischievous grin conceals his disability, but he struggles to communicate with his parents. He has missed out on so many things over the years. Four-year-old Adan Khan, a resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was born without the ability to hear. Until he was old enough to respond to sounds, his parents were unaware of his condition. He was referred to an ENT specialist. To diagnose Adan, the doctor performed multiple tests. Adan was diagnosed with Sensorineural Hearing Loss after the reports came out. At first, the doctor recommended that Adan should get a hearing aid. But Adan’s parents could not afford it. When Adan’s hearing abilities did not improve over time, he was referred to another specialist. The doctor told Adan’s parents that he needs to undergo a Cochlear implant surgery. This medically implanted neuroprosthetic device can give Adan the ability to hear.

Sadly, Adan’s family cannot afford to pay for this expensive procedure. His father works as a receptionist and has a family of six to support. Due to financial constraints, Adan’s father cannot get his son the treatment he needs. Adan’s mother shared with us:

Adan Khan's Story

Four-year-old Adan Khan, a resident of Peshawar, had sensorineural hearing loss since birth. His parents learned about his condition and took him to a local hospital when he was a year old. The doctor evaluated him and advised Cochlear Implant Surgery. He was admitted to Ali Medical Centre, Islamabad, where Dr.Jawwad Ahmed performed his operation on 22-06-2022. He installed the internal component of the cochlear implant successfully. He was discharged after one day of stay in the hospital. After six weeks, the external component of his cochlear implant was also fixed. He is discovering new sounds every day.
