Muhammad Ali, a five-year-old resident of Mansehra, is suffering from Congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss. Ali was burning with a high fever when his parents took him to hospital. He was given symptomatic treatment. But after a few months, he developed an ear infection. As he grew older, his parents noticed that he wasn’t responding to sounds. They took him for a consultation and he was advised to undergo a series of hearing tests. After the test reports came, Ali was diagnosed with Congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss. The doctors advised him to get a Cochlear Implant. This Cochlear implant will help her recognize hearing sensations and stimulate or activate the inner ear nerves.

Muhammad Ali’s father is a private teacher and the sole earner in the family. He has a family of eleven people. In these times of a global pandemic and financial crisis, it is very difficult to even put food on the table for eleven people. The cost of this procedure is beyond his father’s affordability. A colleague told Ali’s father about Transparent Hands and we were contacted. Ali’s mother shared her distress in the following words:

“I want my son to know how much I love him. Every time I express it in words and he looks at me puzzled and confused trying to understand what I am saying. Muhammad Ali's Story

Five-year-old Muhammad Ali, a resident of Mansehra, had sensorineural hearing loss since birth. In order to develop his sense of hearing, he was advised of cochlear implant surgery. His operation was performed by Dr. Jawad Ahmed on 14-01-2022 at Ali Medical Complex. The internal component of the implant was fixed in this surgery behind Ali’s ear. He recovered well from the procedure and was discharged after one day of hospital stay. The external component of his cochlear implant was installed after six weeks. He can hear his parent’s voices and all the sounds of the world now.
