Twenty-four years old Muhammad Aqeel, a resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, is suffering from ear discharge and decreasing hearing ability since his childhood. He went to an ENT specialist, the doctor ran some diagnostic tests. After the evaluation, the doctor diagnosed Aqeel with Bilateral Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM). Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) results after perforation of tympanic membrane with persistent drainage from the middle ear for more than 2-6 weeks. To treat this condition, the doctor advised Aqeel to undergo a Bilateral Tympanoplasty as a lasting cure. Tympanoplasty is a surgery to repair the eardrum. The eardrum is a thin layer of tissue that vibrates in response to sound. This procedure is crucial for Aqeel to get better as his hearing ability is deteriorating drastically. Unfortunately, the cost of this operation is beyond their affordability.

Muhammad Aqeel is a student and lives in a hostel. To support his family, he works at a departmental store as a helper and earns just enough to meet the basic needs of the family. With a family of nine to support, it is impossible for him to bear the expense of this procedure. Aqeel shared with us :

“I have been suffering from this for I don’t know how long . It has affected the most important years of my life. I can’t go out in noisy places. My hearing has been affected so much that it is also affecting me mentally and making me cranky.”

Muhammad Aqeel's Story

Muhammad Aqeel, a 24-year-old resident of Azad Jammu Kashmir, had been suffering from left ear pain since childhood, and right ear discharge with pain for the last four months. Upon consultation with an ENT specialist, he was diagnosed with Bilateral (CSOM) Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media. After the diagnosis, Aqeel was advised to undergo right tympano Masteroidectomy and Left Tympanoplasty. He was sent to Patel Hospital for his Tympanoplasty by Dr. Talha Ahmed Qureshi on 26–01-2022. He stayed in the hospital for two days and was discharged in satisfactory condition. Muhammad Aqeel has been cured.
