Three years ago, Farman Ali suffered from flu and fever. Moreover, he developed a lump on the right side of his face and neck. Later, over the course of three years, the lump increased in size and became painful. After tests, he was diagnosed with Right Parotid Pleomorphic Adenoma. Pleomorphic adenomas are benign salivary gland tumors, which predominantly affect the superficial lobe of the parotid gland. The “polymorphic” nature of the tumor can be explained based on its epithelial and connective tissue origin.

No, to treat this condition, the doctor has advised Farman to undergo a Parotidectomy. Parotidectomy is the partial or complete removal of the parotid gland. Unfortunately, Farman Ali cannot afford the hefty cost of his surgery as he is the sole earner of the family. He works at an office and hardly manages to earn PKR 35,000 per month. With a family of seven to take care of, he cannot afford the cost of the surgery at all. He told us:
