For the last five years, Ghulam Qadir has been suffering from pain in his left kidney. At first, the local doctor provided symptomatic treatment for temporary relief. Upon consultation and ultrasound, he was found to have renal stones. Gradually, due to the lack of appropriate treatment, Ghulam’s kidney became nonfunctional. Now, upon his doctor’s advice, Ghulam Qadir needs a Left Nephrectomy. Nephrectomy is the surgical removal of a kidney. In some cases, a nephrectomy is performed to deal with a diseased or seriously damaged kidney.
Unfortunately, Ghulam Qadir cannot afford the hefty cost of a Nephrectomy. Due to his painful condition, he has been unable to work. His son is the sole earner of the family. He works in a textile factory and hardly manages to earn PKR 15,000 per month. In this measly income, he barely keeps the household running. Therefore, he is in no position to arrange for his father’s surgery. He told us:
“I could not afford the hefty cost of a removal surgery, so I resorted to quacks and herbal medicines. I think it ended up worsening my case even more. Now, I am not even sure what to do about it.”

Ghulam Qadir's Story
Ghulam Qadir, aged 54 years, suffered from pain in his left kidney. When he got himself checked, his condition was diagnosed as kidney stones. The doctor gave him some medicine but the pain did not stop. It was increasing day by day. He went to the doctor again and this time he was worked up and diagnosed with a non-functioning left kidney. He was advised to have his left Nephrectomy. For this purpose, Ghulam Qadir was admitted to ISRA University Hospital and the procedure was performed by Dr. Rajab Ali on 23.09.2021. Abdul Qadir’s faulty kidney was removed. He stayed in the hospital for four days and was discharged in a satisfactory condition
