Kalsoom Akhtar's Story

Before we tell you about the details of Kalsoom Akhtar’s ailments, please know that only your help can help her get back up on her feet. Therefore, we request you to please donate for Kalsoom’s knee replacement surgery as much as you can.

Fifty-six years old Kalsoom Akhtar has been suffering from Osteoarthritis involving both knees for the last seven years. Osteoarthritis is a condition that causes the cartilage in the knee joint to thin out. In consequence, the surfaces of the joint become roughened, thus creating friction. As a result, the movement becomes painful, and the joint becomes stiff. Due to this condition, Kalsoom is not able to get up or walk. Moreover, the pain has become unbearable for her.

To treat this, the orthopedic surgeon has advised Kalsoom to undergo a bilateral total knee replacement surgery. It is a surgical procedure to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve pain and disability. At first, the orthopedic will perform this surgery on the left side. Later, after her left leg recovers, it will be performed on her right side. While the knee replacement seems like an easy solution to all of Kalsoom’s problems, it is certainly not an accessible solution.

Unfortunately, Kalsoom Akhtar cannot afford the hefty cost of knee replacement surgery. Kalsoom’s husband is retired and relies on his pension for household finances. Kalsoom told us:

“Whoever is reading this, I request you to please help me get back up on my feet.”

We cannot even imagine the pain Kalsoom is in. But, we can empathize with her for sure. Her daughter has finally registered her case with Transparent Hands. Therefore, we request you to please donate for Kalsoom’s knee replacement as much as you can. Our help will get her back up on her feet in no time.
