Khursheed Mai's Story

Khursheed Mai, aged 64, hails from Multan city and suffers from the visual disorder of cataracts. Before we describe Khursheed’s current condition and its treatment in detail, it is worth mentioning here that this is NOT the first time she has suffered from this disorder. A couple of years ago, the 64 years old lady had to undergo surgical treatment for her right eye cataract. Now, four months have elapsed since she first felt discomfort in her left eye. Sometimes, life isn’t just fair, is it? Well, with every moment wasted, Khursheed’s vision is slowly progressing from blurring to partial blindness. And the only treatment that can prevent that from happening is a left phacoemulsification with IOL.

It is easy to understand what happens in this two-step surgical procedure. First, a small probe is inserted via an incision to shatter the cloudy lens which characterizes cataracts. Then, an artificial intraocular lens is inserted in the place of the natural lens that has been removed. Sounds simple enough and risk-free, right? The only downside is that both these procedures are going to cost a fortune to the patient undergoing them. And that is exactly Khursheed Mai’s dilemma as well. She says:

“My husband passed away a couple of months ago, and life has not been the same since. I am dependent on my son now, but he has a family of six to support himself. So, if you are reading my story from the beginning, you will understand why asking my son for my expensive optical surgeries is just not right. All he earns every day is a mere 400 PKR per month, how can I even ask him for this much money?”

A mother who doesn’t want to put the burden on her son, even if it means losing her vision forever. Mothers are precious! Well, here is an idea. Why don’t we all help Khursheed Mai as we would help our own mother? All that you have to do is DONATE for her left Phaco with IOL NOW!
