Ever since Mafiya was born, she suffered from a visible lump in the umbilical region. The lump becomes immensely painful whenever Mafiya tries to run, laugh or do any activity that involves exertion. After a medical investigation, the doctor diagnosed it as an Umbilical Hernia. A hernia is an extremely painful condition that can make the patient’s life quite discontented. Simply described, a hernia refers to the protrusion of an organ or tissue through the weak cavity wall.

To treat this condition, Mafiya has to undergo a Hernia Repair surgery. Unfortunately, Mafiya’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of a Hernia Repair surgery. Mafiya’s father repairs fruit baskets for a living. He hardly manages to earn PKR 18000 per month. Consequently, with a family of seven to raise in this measly income, he is in no position to arrange for Mafiya’s surgery. He told us:

“I feel so helpless whenever I see my daughter wailing in pain. She is only six years old. She does not deserve this. No kid deserves this pain.”
