Donate for Maryam’s Cochlear Implant
Maryam Nawaz's Story
As we took her pictures for this campaign, Maryam stood clueless and stared at our faces. Later, she only responded to her mother’s hand gestures and cues. Seeing her helplessness, we were reduced to tears. We request you to donate for Maryam’s cochlear implant and give her the ability to hear.
Four years old Maryam Nawaz has been suffering from sensorineural hearing loss since birth. At first, her parents were not aware of her condition. Later, when Maryam could not respond to their verbal cues and loud noises, they took her to a hospital. After a thorough check-up, the doctor advised a cochlear implant. But, due to its hefty cost, they were unable to afford it. Therefore, they resorted to implanting a hearing aid device. Unfortunately, the hearing aid device did not prove to be useful.
Now, cochlear implant surgery is the only option for permanent cure. It is a surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device that will give Maryam a modified sense of sound. Therefore, we urge you to please donate for Maryam’s cochlear implant.
“It breaks my heart to see her clueless and lost in her head. Sometimes, I wonder what language she thinks in? What goes on in her head? All of these thoughts keep hovering over my head all the time. Please help Transparent Hands give my daughter the sense of hearing.” -Maryam Nawaz’s mother.
Maryam’s parents cannot afford the hefty cost of her cochlear implant. Her father is the sole earner of the family. Moreover, he works as a daily wage worker and hardly earns PKR 20,000 per month. With seven family members to feed every month, he is in no position to afford Maryam’s surgery. Therefore, he has requested Transparent Hands for urgent help. We wish to help her in every way we can. Now, all we need is your earnest donations. Donate for Maryam’s cochlear implant and give this kid a chance to hear the sounds of life.
Please Note: In certain situations, we proceed with the patient's surgery/medical procedure despite incomplete funding displayed on the website. Following the surgery/medical procedure, we persist in collecting funds and maintain the campaign on the website until funding is secured in full. Hospitals have granted us a grace period for bill payment.
Maryam Nawaz's Story
Maryam Nawaz, aged 4 years, has not been able to hear since she was born. When her parents noticed that she was not responding to sounds, they took her to the doctor who diagnosed Maryam’s condition as sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor recommended a cochlear implant for Maryam. Therefore, she was referred to National Hospital Lahore and her cochlear implant was installed under the supervision of Dr. Naveed Aslam on 06.03.2021 in her right ear. However this was not the end of her procedure. She was to visit soon for the placement of the external component of the device. For this purpose she visited National Hospital again on 22.04.2021 where the external component of the device was placed. She was discharged the same day. Maryam will start taking her appointments with the speech therapist very soon. Gradually, over the period of a few months, the volume of his component will be adjusted after which he will be able to hear normally.
