Fifty-one years old Naseema Begum has been suffering from breathlessness and mild chest pain for a year now. At first, the pain was mild, but slowly it increased. Upon consultation, the doctor gave her medication which failed to provide any long term relief. Later, the symptoms worsened. Later, after ECHO and Angiography, the cardiologist has diagnosed her with double vessel Coronary artery disease. It causes the impaired blood flow in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. 

Now, the cardiologist has advised Naseema Begum to undergo a procedure of PCI to the left anterior descending artery (LAD). PCI is a non-surgical procedure in which a catheter is used to place stents to open up blood vessels in the heart that have been narrowed by plaque.

Naseema Begum’s son is the sole earner of the family. He works as an air conditioner technician at Patel Hospital. Despite long hours of hard work, he hardly manages to earn PKR 17000 per month. In this meagre income, he has to manage the household expenses of six individuals. In these meagre circumstances, it is almost impossible for him to arrange for his mother’s cardiac procedure. He told us:

“I do not have much to say. I cannot live without my mother. Transparent Hands has been extremely generous to us. They are our only source of hope now.”
