Rania Batool's Story

There is nothing as heart-breaking as seeing a toddler suffer from excruciating pain because of a disease or disorder. We are guessing you will agree once you are done reading Rania Batool’s tale of suffering. Rania, a two-year-old toddler from Gujranwala, suffers from TGA, a condition that demands corrective surgery. TGA stands for Transposition of Great Arteries, a congenital defect in which the main arteries of the heart that carry the blood out of the organ are connected at opposite sides. The pulmonary artery and aorta are the two arteries that are switched in position. Angel Rania was diagnosed with TGA within three days of her birth, and since then, it has been a rough life that the kid has lived.  It is just too much for a child!

But, it is not as if all hope is lost for Rania. The good news is that her condition is treatable and the recommended surgery is called senning. The surgical procedure redirects the deoxygenated blood to the pulmonary circulation, thereby correcting the TGA anomaly. There is no doubt about the effectiveness of the procedure. However, like most cardiac surgeries, it is expensive as well. And that is exactly the reason why Rania hasn’t been treated yet. You see, Rania’s family is fighting a financial crisis.

“All I earn (says Rania’s father) is 25,000 PKR per month by driving a Rickshaw, 13,000 of which goes in house rent. We are an 8-membered family, managing for all is a real challenge already. An even bigger challenge than that is seeing my kid suffer every day from pain. If it was not for Transparent Hands, I would have already lost hope. But the hope that donors at Transparent Hands will join hands for my little angel makes me optimistic about the future”- Rania’s father

Rania’s father is putting a lot of faith in Transparent Hands. We are not going to disappoint him, but we are going to need your help as well. And you know what we are going to ask you to do! Donate and donate NOW for Rania Batool’s Senning!

Rania Batool's Story

Rania Batool, aged 2 from Gujranwala was experiencing repeated episodes of chest infections since birth. Upon cardiac assessment, she was diagnosed with TGA or Transposition of great Arteries. Which meant, the two main arteries carrying blood out of her heart were switched in position by birth. The cardiac surgeon recommended her to undergo atrial switch or senning procedure after open heart surgery. She was admitted to Ittefaq hospital Lahore, where Dr. Muhammad Asim Khan performed atrial switch operation on 18-02-2021. Her transposition of the great arteries was corrected by switching them to the normal position. After five days she was discharged from the hospital in a satisfactory condition. Raina is now living a life free of worries. The surgery was conducted with the support of Pakistan Children Heart foundation and other donors.
