Razia Bibi's Story
Razia Bibi, 45 years old, got operated for fibroid uterus around 5 years ago. After the surgery, she started experiencing occasional abdominal pain. Her bowel habits also changed 2 years ago. Through medical investigation and testing, it was revealed that a sponge was mistakenly left inside her abdomen during the previous surgery. Her physician has urgently advised an exploratory laparotomy along with a major intestinal surgery for her so that the foreign body can be located and removed from her abdomen.
Unfortunately, Razia Bibi’s financial situation does not allow her to afford a major surgery. Her husband works abroad as a labourer. Due to the COVID crisis, he has been having employment issues and hence the entire family is facing a difficult time due to the scarcity of income. Their current monthly budget is only PKR 30,000. Razia Bibi and her three children have to fulfil all their needs in this small amount.
“We have been facing financial issues since this COVID crisis has started. It has become very difficult for my husband to earn and send us sufficient money since a lot of people are being laid off. On top of all the tension, now my health is compromised as well. I am so worried about the entire situation that I cannot sleep all night and I keep praying to God to show us a way out of this difficulty.”- said Razia Bibi

Razia Bibi's Story
Razia Bibi, aged 45 years, underwent surgery for her fibroid uterus around five years ago. However, she experienced occasional abdominal pain and altered bowel movements since then. Therefore, she was investigated to find out the cause of abdominal pain. It was discovered that unfortunately a sponge was left inside her abdomen in her previous surgery. Her treating surgeon advised exploration and removal of this foreign body. For this purpose, Razia was admitted to Lahore Care Hospital and her exploratory laparotomy was performed. The sponge inside her body had impacted into the large intestine. Consequently, her right hemicolectomy was done and sigmoid colon was repaired by Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 30.03.2021. She stayed in the hospital for seven days and was discharged in a satisfactory condition. Razia’s abdominal pain has gone and she is now living a healthy life.
