Rozina Farooq suffered from abnormally heavy periods. At first, she did not pay much heed to it. But, slowly, the pain and discomfort increased to the point of no return. With much reluctance, she consulted a gynecologist. After thorough testing, the doctor diagnosed Rozina Farooq with Uterine Fibroids. Fibroids are abnormal growths that develop in or on a woman’s uterus. Eventually, sometimes these tumors become quite large and cause severe abdominal pain and heavy menstrual bleeding. Now, to treat this condition, the gynecologist advised Rozina Farooq to undergo a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. A total abdominal hysterectomy is a surgery to remove the uterus and cervix. 

Unfortunately, Rozina Farooq cannot afford the hefty cost of this surgery. Rozina’s husband is the sole earner of the family. He works as a laborer on daily wages and hardly manages to earn PKR 10,000 per month. C0nsequently, with this income, they are hardly able to keep the household running. Therefore, they are in no position to arrange for Rozina’s surgery. Rozina Farooq’s son told us:

“It’s painful to see my mother lying on the bed all the time. She has never been like this. She is the lady who never wants to sit free, even for a minute. But now, my heart aches when I see her struggling due to her disease. I wish I could take all her pain away, but I cannot.”
