Sajida Parveen's Story

Sajida Parveen, aged 25, hails from the Kasur district of the country and is currently 8 months pregnant with her fourth child. To ensure a safe delivery, Sajida has been advised a C-section. In cases where there is a risk of complications, a C-section is the preferred option for delivery. However, Sajida’s financial condition doesn’t allow her to afford the prescribed surgical method for the safe delivery of her baby. All her husband makes by working for a private company is 20,000 PKR per month. We are sure that anyone who is reading these lines can understand how challenging managing a family of five is in this scant amount. To expect Abbas i.e. Sajida’s husband to come up with funds for her wife’s C-section is wishful thinking at best. Sajida is not oblivious to her family’s financial woes, she says:

“Pregnant mothers must not be depressed, it is not good for the baby. That’s the cliché, isn’t it? But how can I not worry with the knowledge of an uncertain future that my unborn baby has? There is no way my husband is going to be able to afford my C-surgery, I just know it. I cannot pretend that things are not scary right now. I don’t know if we were ever going to have a hope to cling onto if it were not for Transparent Hands”
