Sana Ullah's Story

When your teenage boy (18-years-old) complains of body aches and weakness after a brief period of exertion, while the other children his age are spending their entire day in the playground, it’s a cause of great concern for a mother. Sana Ullah’s mother knew that something was wrong with her child, so when the symptoms manifested too frequently, she took him to a local hospital. The doctor conducted a complete examination and ran multiple tests. Sana Ullah’s reports revealed that he had heart disease affecting his valves. His condition was diagnosed as aortic regurgitation (AR) and mitral stenosis (MS). Aortic regurgitation leads to backflow of blood because of leakage of the aortic valve in the heart. Whereas, in mitral stenosis, the mitral valve does not open properly which leads to blockage of blood flow into the main pumping chamber of the heart.  The cardiologist recommended an open heart surgery for him in which his two affected valves will be replaced.

This does not just sound like a complicated procedure, it is one. But, that is not the reason why Sana Ullah’s parents are anxious. Rather, they are worried because they cannot even think of affording the surgery. His father is a vegetable seller and earns only 16,000 PKR per month. He has seven children, all studying. He is the only breadwinner in the family with eight people dependent on him.

“Us poor people, we cannot afford to get sick. That is an expense that we cannot shoulder, no matter how many hours we work in a day. Our family is already knee deep in debt. Now, my son is also unwell. I feel so helpless and overwhelmed”. – Sana Ullah’s father

It is a heart-wrenching story. But, the good news is that we are going to help them! Our efforts are only fruitful, if you support us too. Your donations for Sana Ullah’s surgery will end his misery. Make an invaluable impact in his life, by pressing that DONATE NOW button!
