Shah Nawaz Khan's Story

Being a laborer is never an easy job, and if one has extreme lower back pain, it is impossible to imagine the kind of stress one is under. Shah Nawaz Khan, the patient in question, is a 50 year old man who works as a laborer and earns around only 10,000 rupees in a month. This amount is supposed to feed his 6 children, all of them who are dependent on him for their daily life needs. They live in a bad condition so thinking about surgical procedures must be the least of his priorities, or he thought so. Shah Nawaz Khan is in an urgent need of medical attention as he is suffering from L4-5 intervertebral disc prolapse with a spinal stenosis.

In simpler words, the outer fibers of his backbone have been severely injured and he is in immense pain because of that. Furthermore, the spaces between his spine have narrowed and need treatment by a neurosurgeon. Fortunately, Shah Nawaz’s case is not hopeless, as he can be operated to conduct a laminectomy and discectomy. This involves the doctors to make a small incision (cut) and remove the disc that is causing harm to the nerves in that area. The treatment can relieve him of this pain. Shah Nawaz says:

“I tried to bear this pain as long as I could, mostly because I did not think of it as a big deal. But my condition has worsened overtime and the back pain hurts so much that I can barely get anything done! I have my children to take care of, so I understand that I need to take care of this matter as soon as possible. Transparent Hands seems promising, hopefully I will be able to get treated.”
