Seven years ago, Shahida Bibi sustained trauma to her hip joint. They took her to a hospital for emergency management. After check up and X-rays, Shahida was diagnosed with femur neck fracture. Her fracture was treated with a surgery but due to the late presentation, the surgery did not work properly. Therefore, now, Shahida is unable to walk without support.

Now, the only option to treat her condition is a total hip replacement surgery. It is a surgery to replace the damaged hip joint. During the process, the surgeon replaces the old joint with an artificial joint (prosthesis). Unfortunately, Shahida Bibi and her husband cannot afford the hefty cost of a Hip Replacement surgery. Shahida’s husband is the sole earner of the family. He works as a manual labourer at a brick kiln and hardly manages to earn PKR 10000 per month. With a family of four to take care of in the age of rising inflation, they are in no position to arrange for Shahida’s hip replacement surgery. He told us:

“Seven years ago, my wife was at a picnic when she fell from the tree. We thought her injury was getting better, but we were wrong. Over the years, it got worse, and now surgery is the only option for her cure. God help us.”

Shahida Bibi's Story

Shahida Bibi, aged 26, a resident of Sargodha experienced trauma to the left leg seven years ago after a fall. Her old non healing fracture was dealt with surgery. Unfortunately she has had difficulty walking since then. She now requires support for walking. For fixing her left fracture of neck of femur her Girdle stone procedure was done. Now the doctors have advised her to undergo left total hip replacement surgery. For this purpose she was admitted to Akram Medical Complex, Lahore where her surgery was performed by Dr. Zahid Siddique on 10.08.2021. She stayed in the hospital for eight days and was discharged in a stable condition after three days. The constant pain and discomfort that she once complained of is gradually subsiding.
